View Article  Black Diamond brakes, performance brake discs and pads

Black diamond have long been one of the most respected names in the UK for performance brakes. Since their launch in 1992, they have gone from strength to strength with a range of brake discs and brake pads to fit most makes and models of vehicle on the market.

Black diamond produce three types of performance brake disc each with their own advantages.

Black Diamond Drilled Brake Discs.

Drilled brake discs are designed to improve cooling under braking. The hotter the brakes the more likely they are to suffer from an effect called "brake fade". Fade reduces the stopping power of the brakes and is common under heavy or frequent braking or when braking from high speeds. Drilled discs help the brakes to cool under braking reducing the effect of fade and improving braking performance and stopping distance.

Black Diamond Grooved Brake Discs.

Grooved brake discs, or slotted brake discs as they are sometimes known, have grooves cut out from the face of the disc from the centre towards the outside edge. The number and design of these grooves varies depending on the brand of brake disc. These slots help vent particles and gas build up from under the pad and ensure better pad to disc contact under heavy braking, a process known as deglazing. By keeping the pads and disc face free of the dust and gas which is created under braking, fade is reducing and the vehicle stopping distances can be improved. The potential downside of heavily grooved discs in that they can reduce the life span of the brake pads.

Black Diamond Combi Brake Discs

As the name suggests, the black diamond combi discs are a combination of drilled and grooved. They are both drilled for extra cooling, and have grooves cut into them to deglaze the pads. The Combi discs are in my experience the most popular discs in the range and give impressing braking performance over the OEM brake setup, especially when fitted with the superb Black Diamond Predator brake pads.

Black Diamond's success isn't just luck. It is the extensive research and design, and the quality of their performance brakes that has ensured that they have won every brake comparison competition they have entered in both Max power and Fast Car magazines.

The first fast car test in 1995 in which black diamond was awarded the win against all the other major brands, it became clear that all the design and testing work prior to the launch was so very worth while. The 24 groove disc, the groove shape and profile and the post machining heat treatment all playing their part in making this product a world beater.

In 1996 Black Diamond were invited to take part in the first Max Power magazine awards test against all the other major world brands in the performance braking market, Black Diamond came out on top by such a huge margin that Max Power decided not to issue a second place prize! Our competitors were forced to wake up and in the next years awards we came equal first with another brand and in the next awards 1998 / 1999 after a Black Diamond pad compound tweak (Black Diamond Predator), Black Diamond won out right again and is still the current Max Power award holder. That is why www.dcperformance.co.uk are proud to be official Black Diamond Brake Disc and Pads dealers.

Vauxhall Astra VXR Subframe Brace

This subframe brace fits between the left and right sections of the front subframe. Vauxhall fit one as standard but it’s not up to the job, being only 2mm thick it can be bent by hand ! This brace bar is made from solid 10mm thick stainless steel bar so it will never ever rust. Its re-fitted with the bolts you remove for the stock brace, and fitting is very easy, not even requiring the undertray to be removed. It instantly secures both sides of the subframe to prevent them flexing inwards during hard cornering, and better maintains the wheel alignment. A very simple and worthwhile addition to your Corsa. New Forge Recirculation Valve for the Astra / Corsa VXR

This piston operated recirculation valve for the Astra or Corsa VXR is the perfect replacement for the OEM valve which is prone to failure when the engine has been tuned or had an upgrade to the engine management software.

This valve is complete and ready to install with no fitting kit required.

View Article  New VW Golf R

Just announced is the latest in the R series from the VW Stable. The new Golf R is the fastest Golf ever with 266bhp from the 2.0 Turbo engine which it shares with the Audi S3. Unlike the Scirocco, the Golf uses the 4 Motion 4WD running gear. The Golf R will do the 0-60 sprint in less than 5.5 seconds fitted with the DSG gear box, a touch less if you have the 6 speed manual. The top speed is limited to 155mph.

Better yet, the fuel ecconomy is dramatically improved over the previous R32 with its fat 3.2 engine. The 2.0T returns a claimed 33.2mpg! Not back for a car with nigh on 270bhp!

I am certainly looking forward to see what we can come up with in the way of modidng this new R!!
